About Ability Wars:
As someone who has bounced off of this game many times, I can’t be dishonest and give the game a thumbs down. It is objectively a great game, for people who have been playing consistently. And I have to make that stipulation. The new player experience isn’t horrible, but it leaves a lot to be desired. The primary problems are twofold. First, the 1-80 story is between serviceable and excellent. It’s well done, well voice acted, gives plenty of minor player choice along the way, and worth re-visiting on alts to see where some of the other starts/branches go. However, while the inclusion of Living World Season 1 alleviates this to some degree. Veterans will say that “you can just grind gold to convert to Gems and stay free”, but the conversion rate is utter crap, your access to Gold grinds early on is severely limited, and you have more important things to spend what little gold you get on, such as proper lvl80 gear for your character. I’ve played this game since 2012. I remember being blown away by the world when I first started. It felt so alive. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen, in any mmorpg. With how quests and dynamic events work, you simply feel like you are in another world. That is saying a lot, even for an mmorpg. Nonetheless, that’s the kind of game Guild Wars 2 is. Its PvP is matched by amazing storytelling and voice acting. You get the best of both worlds in other words.
